A new article/location/FFF has been submitted to Peter for publication. I have copied the introduction text below as a teaser. Artwork by Richard Luschek, Maps by Thomas Shook and David St. Pierre, Layout by Brent Bailey, with a special thanks to Kerry for some early draft feedback. Hope you all enjoy.
John

Anyana’s Vale is a remote, secluded valley in the Hârnic wilderness. Once the home to an ancient Sindarin clan, it is inhabited today by a lone Sindarin woman. The valley is well hidden from the outside world and is a haven for animals of all kinds. Many species of plants flourish, including some found nowhere else on Hârn.
The valley was settled by Clan Alamaer, an ancient Sidhe clan. Although the Sidhe are commonly believed to be Sindarin whose bloodline has not been mingled with that of humans, others hold that the Sidhe are more a product of virtue and philosophy than good breeding.
In the centuries after the Sindarin retreated to the Shava Forest following the Battle of Sorrows (683BT), the number of Alamaer who remained in the valley slowly diminished. Today, the valley is home only to Anyana Alamaer, a centuries-old Sindarin woman who still grieves for her beloved husband, who was killed in the Battle of Sorrows.
Anyana sees herself as caretaker of the valley and maintains its tranquillity as tribute to the Alamaer and her fallen husband. The valley is rarely seen by outsiders. Anyana welcomes the occasional visit by other Sindarin and maintains a friendly relationship with the Uthriem Roliri, the mysterious brotherhood of Siemist woodsmen.
Possessed of powerful magics and not-inconsiderable skill at arms, Anyana is quite capable of protecting her home. She is also helped in this regard by Byaga, her faithful Dracofelas (Dragon Cat) companion.

Excellent to see new material!!! Plus it incorporates some of the more recent ideas such as the Uthriem Roliri and a Dracofel though the Sidhe appears to be a new element Even though the D&D crowd has run them to death it would be nice to see a Harnic interpertation.

I suppose the only problem now is how to keep the PCs from running off as soon as they meet the cat ...

Thanks for this nice contribution!

I generally like the idea of providing some almost self-contained, and hence re-locatable locations.

Glad you all like the article! It has been a long time coming and Richard and Brent really helped pull it together at the end. I too like the idea of "portable" locations and even though I know where Anyana's Vale is located in my P-Harn, I wanted everyone to be able to put it where it made sense.
Happy New Year!

I simply love the idea of Bognor beeing turned away. Perhaps it was his visit to the valley that led him to making his own tree.

Hi,

a great article, thank you very much. I love the feel of the place, there are lots of good ideas and the art is cool as well, especially the picture of the tree. And we finally have a picture of a (living) dracofela.

Regards,
R.

Thank you John, Richard, Thomas, Dave, Brent and Kerry for an outstanding addition to this Harnic community! 8) Having just finished reading Anyana's Vale I believe there is not a RPGer out there who couldn't utilize this in some way. Kudos to you! =D>

Thank you for volunteering work! Well done. :D

I am interested in knowing, primarily as a curiosity on a point of trivia, where the author envisioned this vale existing.

Akdave,
I placed the vale in the Sorkin mountains near the Selene river. The stream originating in the valley flowed a few leagues to the river. This was a very campaign specific placement. Hope that helps scratch your trivia itch :D

It struck me that the vale doesn't have to be tied to one location, even in one pHarn. It magically moves about every few years, say. It probably wouldn't matter much, but if one wanted to prevent repeated interactions with Anyana, that could be an option.

Also, one minor error - her year of birth is different on pages 4 and 14. Again, not likely to matter much.

Interesting thought!

Well when you are 1000+ years old, what is 103 years +/-??? I think you are the only person that has noticed that little discrepancy - for the record - 1327 BT is the more accurate one - not that it really matters.
