Hi,
Have some questions regarding some errors I'm seeing when using Mappa Harnica. I'm getting an error when I try and split or break a smooth poly -

Cannot spit 2D smooth polygon entity because it is not an unsmoothed polygon.

What I'm trying to do is simply to cut off the polygons at the map borders. I can edit the properties of the smooth polygon to no smoothing and it works fine, but the effect changes when I add back in the smoothing.

Anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
Antonias

It's not really clear to me what you're attempting to do, but why use a smooth poly in that case?

Hey Mac,
What I ended up doing was using the "enhanced poly" and "on" modifier commands to line the road, water, field (whatever) up with the map border. I was just curious as to why the split poly command would not work with a smooth polygon. I'm working on a map of Froyaheim, just trying to get back into the swing of things in preparation for finishing up a Forwelm article I started working on a LONG, LONG, LONG time ago. I thought perhaps I had an error in Mappa Harnica, but I reloaded the software. Might just be that smooth poly was never meant to work with the break or split ploy commands. It only mentions breaking or splitting a poly in the Mappa Harnica manual, doesn't mention it only being certain types.
Thanks,
Antonias

Ah I see. To have a smooth poly conform to an angle in CC2 you have to insert three vertices at the same point, otherwise the poly's angle gets smoothed. And IIRC the behaviour you describe about splitting smoothed polys is not a bug, and though it could appear frustrating there are several workarounds, the first being of course to use regular or enhanced polys instead as you did. :)

the way I usually handle polys at the map boarder is to simply draw them over lapping that border by a bit. The border layer and importantly, the masking layer should both be above the poly in question.

the masking layer is used by having solid white rectangles outside the borders of the map, covering the bits you don't want to see.
