Hi,
I'm new to Harn, but have been captivated by the elegance of the system and the gritty tone of the setting. I don't suppose anyone is looking for a new player in Melbourne, Australia?
If not, I'll just keep avidly reading the great material that Harniacs keep producing. Thanks,
Simon

And one year later, here I find the forum... If people are going to come to a forum, post twice and then leave, they really should put emails in their profiles if they want people to be able to contact them :P

If you PM him, he *might* get a notification, if his profile is set properly.

Honestly, I kept checking it for weeks, but have now found a group that, sadly, is not actually playing Harn :-( But I did get the pm.

Nearly 1000km's between Sydney and Melbourne, bit far to go for a nights gaming, but if you are in the area send me a pm and I might be able to squeeze you in for a session.

Sydney is 1100km from Melbourne (700 miles). I 'spose I could fly, but I'm not that desperate :D

No and not really, not for about the last 5 years.
Kids, and all the people I played with moving away kind of reduced it to zip.

If it's simply meeting gamers that's a problem, that's what my group, and/or gamecircle.org are for.

Can't do much about the kids :?

Well, our player who was insisting on GURPS has toodled off to play volleyball instead, so now we're free to try new games. Maybe even that crazy old Harnmaster!

Anyone want to join three or four others down in Oakleigh for a regular weekly meeting on a weeknight?

Hi guys,

I am a Harn GM based in Brisbane, I use Chivalry & Sorcery set in Harn. My group is a bunch of friends that I started playing with way back in 1980. There about 10-12 of us at any given session all this time and we still play 26 years later. We began using Harn in the early 90's and never looked back. Harn allows you to simply open the books and play ! no designing worlds, maps etc....just play and have a great time. And we still use C&S as our rule system in Harn.

good to know there are many aussies here.

Regards
Shane

Hrmmm lets i know there are at least 5 in Sydney, 3 in Melbourne, plus others Canberra and Brisbane and there used to be a group in Darwin as well. Wonder if we could con the other Harniacs into holding HarnCon VI 2008 in Australia?

Harn Darwin is going strong, in fact when I had the shop, I was the biggest Harn retailer in Aust, acording to Columbia. Harn game once a week and there is at least another half dozen people out there who have played or know the setting.
At my peak I had 3 groups running together in a big linked campign that had about 12-15 players. I started that game because I looked at all the excellent gaming locations and with one group it would have taken a life-time to get to them all, but with 3 group's spread across the island I got to explore it all heaps faster. One of my other reasons was in case the group could not make a session I could make a few phone calls and have a back up group at the table, but everyone wanted to game every week so I sometimes had to game several nights a week, and that was soo sad!!
One of my current players and I ran some Harn at Cancon back in the early 2000's over several years.
Anyway, this is not meant to be a brag, but you have to get excited about the game right?
Allan

Yes I remember, no need to blow your trumpet it was loved, the huge Battlelust game as your finale. And i was stuck running a measly D&D game when it was on. Though you did like my Model of Pled. Infact it was your group I was referring to.

Actually your Battlelust game was a great help an old CON game 'Ravensnest' has recently moved to a modified Battlelust. The first time we did the game using battlelust several of our players said they remembered playing at Cancon. As such no need for you to blow your trumpet I'll blow it for you. You guys did an awesome job and the set up for the battlelust game looked great.

Hrmmm 12-15 plus at least 6 in sydney, maybe there are enough of us to have HarnCon 2008

That's very nice that the other Aussie cities are doing so well that even non-Aussies have heard of it... but doesn't help me down in Melbourne much :(

We have a group of 5 players in Adelaide also. I can't speak for the group, but I'd certainly be keen in attending a HarnCon in 2008 anywhere in Australia.

Are you a moderator from game circle? I personally find writing up a campaign for an unknown audience somewhat of a chore - I use gamecircle purely as a vehicle to recruit new players. I find it very Melbourne centric and having now contacted the grand total of 4 members registered in South Australia, I don't see the site as having that much more promise for what I need unless it adopts a more national approach. From your prompt I did however update the current Adelaide Harn campaign page - at least when people see the date stamp they will know it is still active.

Yes I am "Kyle" on those forums, and a mod there.

gamecircle.org Melbourne-centric only because this Melbourne gamer has encouraged the Melbourne people he knows to put their game material up on the wiki. Most people on any forum, regardless of topic, don't post, they only read. So when a forum has under a hundred members, the four or five active ones will make it seem like "their" place.

A forum's usefulness and personality is determined by its posters. So if you want more Harn stuff, or more Adelaide stuff on it, then post it.

At the moment, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. "Well there is not much Adelaide stuff on it, so I won't post much Adelaide stuff on it. Gee I wish someone would post more Adelaide stuff!"

A forum and wiki requires participation from members to give it life, and success - just like a roleplaying group. If everyone sits there like lumps waiting for someone else to do something, it's not very exciting.

So, go post! Stir up some interest in Harn so I can run it here! ;)

I see that this thread was started in 2005, with the last post above being in February this year. I am based in Melbourne, Australia and would be interested in playing.

Cheers, Jeremy
