There was another one, where the group had to follow the steps of a dead kings heir on his pilgrimage that was good too, but cant remember the name...(king was killed by an arrow of slaying....heir was kidnapped and held in a castle with a griffon....ring any bells??)

N3 Destiny of Kings? They also made a AD&D second edition version of it.

I recall UK2 The Sentinel was alright. N5 Under Illefran was passable.

There was X12 Skarda's Mirror that probably could be tweaked into Harn possibly.

The Pendragon adventure "The Grey Knight" was supposed to be good, but I never read it or experienced it.

I've found a surprising amount of decent material among older D&D modules, including adventures from Dragon magazine. The PCs in my campaign are currently exploring my version of the tomb of Galeroth (see Common Knowledge, HarnPlayer p 58), which is based off the adventure "The Garden of Nefaron" from an old Dragon magazine (#53, I think). I needed to include a few traps and found several good ideas from perusing the old Tomb of Horrors adventure module from Gary Gygax. As written, I wouldn't use either for Harn, but both contained a lot of good ideas that I was able to incorporate.

A lot of the old D&D adventures contain some awful maps, though. One common feature that drives me crazy are the hallways that meander for hundreds of feet before ending up a dozen feet from where they started. That said, there are some gems, too. I recall an illustration of a ruined manor from the "Village of Hommlet" which was fairly good.

Destiny of Kings...I think that was it. I want to try to tie that possibly into the Gardiren Heirs pilgrimmage....or some other personage of note....maybe When Maldan makes a play for the crown on Miginaths death.....and Koris is on his pilgrimmage.....

But, the question that keeps sticking in my mind is this: Is this really a 'renaissance'? I mean-- did 'old-school' gaming ever really die and go away-- or at least suffer a major decline in popularity such that it makes sense to speak of a 'rebirth'?

It is a rebirth in the sense that clones of games that have been out-of-print for decades are being published. Similarly, if they started making '65 T-birds again, it would be a renaissance despite the existing (well-kept) T-birds.

So it must be a rennaisance of muscle cars....we have the new Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro....

I prefer the originals always, of course!

Hommlet was a great intro D&D module, and, frankly, would not be out of place in a Harn campaign, believe it or not. Gygax put a lot of Harn-like detail into describing every single home and hovel in the little village!

I've often considered for fun doing a line-by-line translation of the module into HarnMaster to have it as an intro for new players.

Well so long as you don't do a line-by-line transfer of the subsequent Temple of Elemental Evil ( ), you'll be fine.

Right! I meant more of a Hommlet to HarnManor "translation". However, the moat house could easily house a cult of Agrik (the Eternal Flame...), Lareth the Beautiful as the Viriahn.

Now, as if to further the OSR cause Mentzer & co are about to start a RPG company. It seems they are serious.

// Edit: having read the full thread, I am not sure what to make of this. Good intentions?
