Has anyone advenrtured at Noron's keep?

What happened? How well did it play? To High fantasy? If so how have you changed the area?

Perfect adventure area? What happened when you were there?

Well. I haven't but there may be some adventure there in the future. I have a PC who is a member of the Cheyn Mhic Cainte (the fanatical faction of the Jarin resistance in Gedan), and there's the whole thing with the escaped traitor who went to Noron. If they find out, the PC could be sent there to take care of this loose end... This PC has a personal reason as well: He was a member of the group that was ambushed because of the treatchery (The Cheyn Mhic Cainte sent a group to assasinate the son of the lord of Gwaeryn). Could be interesting... Noron might not like intruders trying to kill his guests (damn! I can't find the Noron article right now...)

I ran a session long ago where the PCs were travelling from Kaldor to Anrist Point (following a partial map). Along the way, they went through Noron's Keep and were of course stopped for the usual toll.

The party consisted of veteran characters who had a significant amount of wealth on them that they were not willing to part with. Fortunately, Noron took a liking to one of the party members - a 6'5" powerfully built Agrikan priestess named Menteri. So, through some effective (ahem) social intercourse, she managed to negotiate a toll-free passage through Noron's lands. Well, not completely toll-free - they were obliged to accompany Noron and some of his sons on a merry jaunt through a Sokus complex for a lark (Noron had asked the PCs over dinner one night whether they had slain many gargun - probably a mistake for the PCs to exaggerate...).

Miraculously, none of the PCs were killed in the gargun hunt, but one did end up drowning when he did something really foolish over at Noron's Keep. I can't remember the exact details but I think he publicly made fun of Menteri. Noron picked the character up and tossed him in the Kald to teach him some manners. Unfortunately, that character (like most Hârnic characters) couldn't swim and he ended up sinking. The rest of the party, being mostly Agrikans, just gruffly laughed the incident off and eventually departed Noron's Keep under good terms.

That's what I did. Noron played a major part in my 'Jarin-Campaign', but I never decided, what role he would really play. He certainly has more sympathy for the Jarin and began to support the cause of the Jarin against the Ivinians because of their expansive manners. But the Campaign was never finished... :(

Noron is actually one of the most enigmatic and interesting NPCs on Hârn.

Greetings.

As a kid I played AD&D (before seeing the error of my ways :D ) and I had a good time with the series Against the Giants, Decent Into the Depths of the Earth, Vault of the Drow, and Queen of the Demonweb. About a year ago I worked those old modules (extremely toned down) into my Harn campaign.

Noron and his sons had taken to raiding some of the outlying Kaldoric settlemets for some unknown reason. The players were to find out why he would do such a thing after remaining virtually neutral for as long as anyone could remember. If any of you have played the old modules, you will see where this is going. Noron was being coerced by the Dark Elves (which was a nice way to bring in The Heart that Broods article) who were plotting (as always) to bring humanity to its ruin.

My players included a Sindarin weaponcrafter/shek-pvar, to whom I gave a familial link to Gwydrial (sp)? This allowed for some interesting play as he found out more about what was going on, while trying to conceal the old Sindarin rift and distance himself from his great, great, great....., cousin. Eventually I had most of the party thinking that he was a mole, sent to distroy them. It was great.

My players had hold of a dangerous artifact and were told that the safest way of disposing of it was to take it to Noron, which they did. He proved to be a genial host, but with a twisted sense of humour - he gave gifts to the players when they left but failed to tell them exactly their properties. For example he gave a female PC the Girdle of Heradra which caused any males to fall hopelessly in love with her - it created a great deal of turmoil in the party until they realised what was happening....

One of the PCs was also attacked by Eneyje of Surisyl, who was afraid that the PCs may be looking for him. As punishment for attacking guests, Noron banished him from his keep, and Eneyje ended up joining the party (as a PC when a new player also started playing)

Oh, and the artifact - Noron walked into another plane and deposited it in a tower there...

Damn! And i forgot the most important thing!

While dining with Noron the PCs notice a tapestry depicting the fall of Barra ... "Yes, he was a good man" says Noron .. Players look at Noron .. "Ummm,,, he's been dead some 1800 years" .. "Yes, i buried him" ....

The Pcs , who are working for the Jarin resistance, eventually persuade Noron to reveal the location of the Spear of Barra, so they can use it as a rallying point for the Jarin people ...

And the whereabouts of the spear? In Azadmere, after Noron lost a wager to a Khuzdul chieftain some 500 years ago ....

In one of our very first campaigns a very miserly and tough Khuzan named Ghürbagh sic! refused to pay toll to Noron.

The result was that poor Ghürbagh suffered a record amount of 168 injury points in a fight with Noron :o before passing out. Oh yes, he hit Noron too. Noron was so impressed with his tenacity that he healed our hero and gave him some free advice and a free passing of the ford.

the experience have sat marks on the players for a long time to come. Not that they thought it was too fantasy but the fact that Noron charged them quite heavily in tolls and the like when they were there. True he was extremely generous with his meals and such and even gave them a magic item but the stuff they had to cough up to pass still lingers on their minds. I intend to take them there again soon enough.

That about sums up the situation for my players right now too.

However, I have plans to make an arms shipment up Noron's road to help the resistance and it may benefit the PC's to become involved if there is to be hoe that Noron won't just keep half of it for toll...
