As these are my two favorite settings I got to wondering the other day how I might take aspects of Warhammer and introduce them into a P-Harn (HarnHammer?). The settings are very different, especially in terms of technology, but I think they share a similar grim hopelessness that might make certain aspects of Warhammer fit in a P-Harn. In particular, I'm thinking of the Shadow of Bukrai and how it might relate to Warhammer's Chaos. The two are somewhat analogous.

I envision a P-Harn where the Shadow of Bukrai has grown in power and influence to the extent that Chaos has in the Warhammer setting. What do you think that would be like? Any speculation?

I like both as well, but I think that it would be very tough to blend the two. They have VERY different flavors of "grim". It can be possible to use the WH rules, though, for a Harn campaign.

Or It might be the rise of "Ilvir" He lives on Hârn, is mostly considered eccentric but harmless. Turning Ilvir into an evil chaos deity, worshiped by degenerated tribes of Jarin and secret cults, has a nice Chuthulu/Lovecraftian appeal.

I recently read "a world without end" by Kenn Follett. Most of the book is set during the plague. I think that could be a be a nice way to get the "doomsday" feeling. A plague of chaos. 1/3 to 1/2 of the population dying, horribly. People massing to the dark and hedonistic churches, not for salvation, but for self gain and to "live out the last days". Laranian priests deserting in terror. Flagellants banding up and parade through the streets of towns.
And perhaps the church of Agrik purging the victims or suspected victims with fire and steel.
And amidst all the chaos (and CHAOS) some brave souls trying to live their normal lives. But behind it all, the ancient terror, and his mad degenerated followers....

Perhaps the PCs brought the plague to Hârn through a brasi point.

The spirit of Chaos could blend in some way with Bukrai.

I do not think you need the technology of "old-world" to get the right feeling.

For me the pantheon/Hârnic religion does not really work. So I think that whatever you do. It will enhance your P-Hârn.

I like WH Fantasy actually more than Hârn. It knows what it is, contrary to Hârn. But I agree, they are very different settings.

My diabolical vision is to marry Hârn with WH40K. In this setting, Hârn as a nexus of interplanar travel has become a critical location in the Empire-Ork-Chaos wars. Everyone wants to control it, and draw from its magical energies. Dropship flares in the skies, the familiar thudda thudda of Orkish boltguns, Chaos/Bukrai finally unleashed, and the Elven defences and Dwarven machinations visible to the human eye - for the first and last time...

Armageddon. :)

I admit that I might dabble on the threshold of "dark arts". But I find your last post blasphemous

I also am a big of WFRP, and also thought about mixing them...just replacing harn
for the island of Albion in warhammer. But end the end.. They are two different tales.
When I run harn i try to keep it a "low to non Fantasy" and with warhammer its more
a "mid fantasy" game. In harn the players are forced in to roleplaying, because if they
get into a fight they make sure they will be the ones to come out on top. But in the
Warhammer system they tend to be more daring. Over the years I am begining to hate
games with "high fantasy" with magic and monsters every where.. and thats one thing
I love about harn...it is very easy to remove all the fantasy stuff and still have a good
game.. but still let players have the use Alchemy and such.

Hmmm, seems there's an overlap of love for Harn and WFRP, must be the "gritty" game thing. I've also played around with the idea of using Harn for Albion, but I eventually decided the two worlds don't mix very well.

What I'm thinking instead is to use the Old World for Sherem in the Kethiran Family of worlds. That way you can have your Harn gritty and your WFRP gritty without trying to mix the two, they're just a Godstone apart.

HAH!! That makes for some seriously strange thoughts....Harn as an R&R haven from the megabattles on Sherem....and a canonfodder recruiting center!

I'm not actually trying to do these things, I just thought it was a neat idea. I like "what if" scenarios.

The first two things that come to mind are the whole Chaos thing and the way it affects spellcasting. I just love the idea that everytime you cast a spell it's a gamble. The character is thinking it and you as a player are thinking it when you decide how many dice to use to cast a spell. And it just seems to me that Bukrai and Chaos have a lot in common.

There's mood, too, and there's lots about Warhammer that contributes to that. I like the idea of all the hidden Chaos cults in Warhammer and how they work to bring the Empire down. Perhaps using Morgath and Naveh cults, this could be emulated in Harn.

And I also really like Warhammer's use of the literary "Man vs. Himself" conflict (Man vs. The Ruinous Powers). I wonder how that might manifest in Harn. It would certainly have a different feel.

The material for WHFRP is pretty well written, IMHO many scenarios could be converted to HW. I mean, there is no doubt that Ivinians are Scandanavians. Just look at the nomenclature. Everything else is pretty vague, all a GM has to do is rename certain places in Lythia and its people to capture the "Old World" feel of WHFRP.

Its way easier to incorporate that than Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Eberron etc
