The adventure, along with its six supporting articles, should be in Peter's hands by tomorrow, so hopefully they will be available for download by the end of the week.

Any comments welcomed, as always.

The adventure, as well as all the supporting articles, is/are now available. I've also made them into a series along with the previous adventure and its supporting articles. All up, it's the biggest series we have!

And damn fine work by Alun and his contributors, I'd say. Go git 'em while they's hot! :)

I wish I could claim 'so much work ... and so little time' but it is nearly 2 years overdue!

Peter - thanks for the very swift posting; the links between the various articles; and the blurb you've culled from the text of the supporting articles.

What would we do without you? You are a treasure beyond compare.

Hey don't be so hard on yourself. Two years overdue for Harn releases is about spot on for time that we all expected it.
If it had been 10 years or more then maybe...

By the way, how do I know if you do a new version which one I have.
Referring to Heart of Darkness, without checking the module, I am not sure if I have the latest, maybe a version number could be included.

Simply download the file again and throw away the old one. That way, even without comparing the two files, you'll know you have the latest. ;)

If a file is updated, I usually include a note in the blurb.

Thanks,
It was more that I had printed the module but did not want to print again if I had the latest.
And being lazy, was looking for a verion number to check which one I had.

The revised Heart of Darkness has that info on its cover. You can assume that the version posted by Peter is always the most up to date. Also, if you go to the HoD download page Peter has helpfully indicated the date he posted the revision. I'll also announce any revised version here - though I really don't expect to do one for RoAE. HoD needed revision once Anders sponsored art for it, the text remained essentially the same.

Monitoring the downloads of Root of All Evil from Lythia.com (as you do when you let a frail fledgling out into the harsh world beyond the nest) and it is Cynswyr Ariensyn that is being downloaded more often than any of the other supporting articles or, indeed, the adventure itself.

Why is that? What is it in the blurb that's making that the most attractive article? Is it just that it has an unpronouncable name? Is it that it's listed on the KP map of Harn?

Just wondering.

Aha! Good point! By good luck the party are currently in the West (Tormau no less)....They have been staunchly in the East for ages but strangely enough the wind turned westwards with all these Rethemi publications coming out :D

No clue! I downloaded everything, and is reading now.

First class work! (As we have come to expect)

I love the maps and the easy step by step nature of the adventures. Very clear and easy to follow. Makes reference and reading easy.

And two years is nothing....

After reading RoAE and the background articles I have to say that I really like them. Thank you for sharing it with us, Arlun!
I am even thinking about starting a new campaign on this base. We will see...

There is only one thing I am missing (besides the following two adventures ): information about the ship Breyta and its crew. There are only the descriptions of the captain and of Vigdis but nothing else. I have got the impression that there could be a complete background article missing. After all, it is one of the main locations of the adventure.

Steady on! I know Alun is a celt but to call him a barbarian is a little rich these days! I mean they have roads and bridges and everything.

I'm pleased you enjoyed it - the intention of what has grown into the Dark rethem (credit to Anders for that group title) was to encourage GMs to think about the West &/or go beyond what Golotha and the local politics have to offer. There's no reason why that can't provide a great backdrop but there's much more to the West than Kanday and Rethem.

You correctly identify something that might have been. A write-up of the Breyta was in the original campaign plan but several things intervened:

1. Time - I was conscious that if I didn't get it out soon then I might never finish the damn thing; I am not by nature a 'completer finisher'. I was much more interested in getting it out to people and then finishing Part 3 and getting the structure of PArt 4 into a place that could allow it to be finished. I'll look for the spreadsheet I used to get as far as I did with defining her - anyone is welcome to fill in the blanks and post her back here, with my gratitude.

2. The Mechanics - I did once create a ship to carry players to Hepekeria and my recollection was that it was more trouble than it was worth. Don't get me wrong I think the Pilots Almanac has much to recommend it but it's just a bit too dense for me to want to use the ship building section more than once every decade or so. This time around it was enough to use the PA rules for movement and to summarise that in the notes from Captain Grim's rutter.

3. Dead Weight - I'd meant to mention this in the introductory notes but forgot; it would be possible to use that ship instead of the Breyta as a source of crew and ship. I know it's not a knaar and you'd have to change crew motive a lot, but as a characterful collection of NPCs it could be helpful.

Anyway - thanks for the feedback. I'd begun to think RoAE had disappeared without a trace.
200+ of you have downloaded it and the articles but few have commented.

Can I stress that any further feedback would be most welcome; even if you hated it I'd like to know why.

Re: Arlun - I think Rebecca Downey was the first to make that observation on my name.

I'm confirming nothing but ... if von Clauswitz can spend his afterlife offering Tormau advice and lives with the local pronounciation of his name then ...

... I don't see why Arlun shouldn't have been spirited off by Kemlar to fulfil his potential on the celtic fringe of a different island. He would, after all, speak the language.

I tried to upload the Breyta spreadsheet - from when she was still a Nivik - but it's too big.

PM me and I'll email it to anyone who wants it.

Does this mean Arlun is pronounced 'Arr Lynn' ?
