Hi Alun,

I will come if it is in York, and doesn't clash with a planned trip home to Oz (ie, probably Oct onwards).

I almost certainly wouldn't if in Foteviken.

Thanks,

Dan.

I can't see us opting for October, Dan.

Foteviken - I will

York - I will (preferred option since I've already been in Foteviken)

May I kiss the bride now?

I'm not sure the rating system can deal with 'preferred'. I'm reading this as 'will' and 'will'.

Mel (guido on this forum) tells me he is agnostic on the location...

Rod (Borlik on this forum) would prefer Sweden.

Like myself, not overly helpful in terms of absolute committment I am afraid.....

Hi all

I am hoping/planning to attend whether it is in York or Sweden.

It will depend on dates etc, accessibility will be an issue.

My preferred option is probably York.

OK - until they can enter the lists with 'I will' on their lips, I'll leave them out of the calculation.

Did you tell Rod that if he goes to Sweden he has to share a chalet with me again! that might change his preferences!

Foteviken, coming.

Elsewhere, (other than Strasbourg) probably not.

The current runners and riders:

Those that 'will attend a Foteviken Con' ... gallusgames, Irsi Flimsi, Ken, PK, Mikael, Wayfarer, hrafn, Roland d R

Those that 'will attend Yorkshire Con' ... gallusgames, Irsi Flimsi, Kara, Kerry, PK, Mikael, Wayfarer, Dan Och, Roland d R

NB: Wayfarer - I've judged you as falling on the 'will' side of 'maybe'. Am I right?

The last time we did this as a 'conference package' in Leeds we had 20-ish, and in Varberg and Foteviken, 15-ish (Mikael/Anders, help me with my memory).

In 2010 we didn't have the critical mass to book the posh venue in Lund that Mikael had in mind, so ... with expressions of interest probably closing this coming weekend, and even adding in Anders, Andy and Neil in some combination ,I'm worrying that we are looking at Mikael's office or my front room (which isn't in York).

If there's anyone else you think was going to express an interest then now would be a good time to kick them into action.

Seems like you have forgotten me. I am going to Foteviken and I might go to York too if I can fit it into my domestic schedule.

Apologies, I'm counting that 'Will' Foteviken and 'might' York.

Don't forget Anders - he is very probably on for both locations.

I think he probably is but I don't want to make a decision for him (or Neil/Andy) so I've prompted all three to show themselves here and express a view. If they don't we'll have to make a judgement on the basis of the expressions of 'will' that we have.

Hello! :D

Sorry for joining the discussion a bit late, but I will York or Foteviken.

Cheers,

I've just picked up an email from Anders which is ''will/will"

Just about final:

Those that 'will attend a Foteviken Con' ... gallusgames, Irsi Flimsi, Ken, PK, Mikael, Wayfarer, hrafn, Roland d R, Ogier, Greger, Anders

Those that 'will attend Yorkshire Con' ... gallusgames, Irsi Flimsi, Kara, Kerry, PK, Mikael, Wayfarer, Dan Och, Roland d R, Greger, Anders

11 will Foteviken
11 will York

Assuming Andy/Neil have no preference - still not confirmed, then the numbers dopn;t help us make a decision.

That's likely to come down to practicality - Anders/Mikael - shall we exchange some emails about Plan A/Plan B?

I've come to the conclusion that the idea of a Con in York is dead.

Let me explain my logic.

Without nearer 20 people confident they would attend the booking of a decent venue along with a hotel deal (in Olympic Summer) is not cost effective. We could go ahead in blind optimism but if we get into the Spring/Summer and there still isn't sufficient confirmation we'd have to cancel the venue but hopefully keep the hotel deal. That would be a decent risk if we had a fall-back venue we could guarantee in York.

When that was the situation in 2010 at IviniaCon, Mikael was able to offer his company offices for the venue as they were within walking distance of the hotel. That worked fine.

We have no such fall-back in York and my front room is 40 mins by car from the city!

I've asked Andy/Neil if they are any more optimistic but have heard nothing.

So, given that what is most important is certainty declared as early as possible for those (albeit rare) folk who might travel a long way I'm conceeding the field.

I hope we'll still see Ken and Kerry and anyone else from some distant continent but, Mikael/Anders - back to Plan A - Foteviken or its local fallback. What's your thinking?

Hi Alun,

Thank you for looking into the options and being willing to come forward and offer an alternative.

Mikael, I am looking forward to Foteviken.

I must admit to a certain degree of disappointment at the low numbers of people willing to commit to either venue.

I've been a little quit due to high workload and the next beta-release of Fantasy Campaign Manager (will be released this week), but kept an eye on the thread (Alun, appreaciate the work you've done to resolve this).

As Kerry, I'm a bit dissappointed that the interest is a bit on the low side, then again I'm more optimistic and think that this will pick up come next year...

Here's the plan: if we don't get enough people to support being at Foteviken all weekend, we'll use the conference room at my office as we did the last time in Lund.
Our conference room can accomodate two simultaneous sessions.

If the venue is in Lund, I'll arrange for a visit on Friday, say between 1000-1700, for everyone interested.

BTW, there's a recent article in New York Times about Lund here.

I'll get some information up within a few weeks...

Best regards

Mikael

Lund is a really nice town - actually all three Swedish towns/cities I have visited I rate as 'good'.

If it's in Foteviken I should have at least 2 people local to Malmo that would attend at least for a portion of it (one being an artist doing work for KP). I know two more isn't a great number, but it's something, and I'll work on seeing if Eric (he attended Leeds with me) might not attend as well.

It would be good to see Eric again - but he's not using that elf in any game of mine!
