I used this area for last event in my campaign. Got quite interesting too

Had a "walker of the wind" and a couple braves from Rabok go to a lot of trouble capturing the smith and his apprentice from Minarsas, brought them to a long lost khuzdul foundry/keep along the Darl, roughly between southern mine and Rabok, and forced them to make weaponry. This then was supposed to get traded for Gargun gold.
Alas, the PC's managed to find them, but failed to save anyone but the mortally wounded apprentice (whom they actually think was the "walker in the wind" trying a clever disguise, even to the point of thrusting a spear through his own cheek oO, to get away)
After that rather scary fight with the walker and the braves, they end up staring into the darkness outside as a BIG number of glowing red eyes demand the weaponry they was promised, there was a hilarous moral dilemma if I ever saw one hehe. In the end they chickened out and gave all the weapons and armour (not all that much as it had only been a week or so) to the Gargun. They got pleasantly surprised (and greedy!) when they realised they'd gotten paid with lumps of gold.
After returning the bodies (and the "suspicious" poor apprentice) to Minarsas they decided to go back and actually managed to find the southern of the mines, and poked around inside it for a while, none of them know anything about mining though, so the only thing they found was a pack of Vlasta
Back to the foundry, they once again get trapped in there by another gargun hunting party demanding more sharpy-pointies and man-skins, this time they decide to take the fight though and manage to kill a rather large bunch of gargun without too much damage to themselves.
After that not so successful excursion they decided it wasnt really worth it "for now" and trotted off to other pastures. Was rather fun all told, and they made some friends and some enemies in Minarsas

Just wanted to share a bit how the are and those mines panned out in my campaign when I saw the thread
