Now this might be answered in any revamp of either Melderyn or Cherafir but they're not here so I'll ask away.

Cherafir 1 (CoH) states that the city is run by two principle officers of the crown. Civil matters, judicial and financial, are under the Lord Warden of Cherafir, who goes on to appoint the council of 12 Aldermen. Military matters are in the hands of the King but are...
Quote:
usually executed by the Lord Constable of Cherafir.
it goes on to say
Quote:
Both these important civic offices are currently held by members of the Council of Eleven
Just as a recap the Council are:

Eilyn Dulye, A Grey Sorcerer, cousin to the King and well over 100 years old.
Gladryne Dulye, Lyahvi Shek Pvar and another cousin of the King.
Vensit of Kelede, Savoryan Shek Pvar. Brilliant and a mere 32.
Ronis of Merkenos, Scholar and Lexigrapher. Always verging on bankruptcy.
Yebisi of Netoshi, Jmorvi Shek Pvar and renowned sword smith.
Deryk of Pharcaras, Fyvrian Shek Pvar. Brother of a Cherafirian physician.
Menena of Sinareal, the King's Harper.
Sunoril Thabel, the Earl of Nurisel.
Chunel Toren, King of Melderyn.
Obiris of Ueld, the Harnic primate of Save-K'nor.
Erech of Werthade, an Astronomer.
Hosgril of Yshale, a Rowanti of the Order of Rydequelyn. Chancellor of the Exchequer of Melderyn.

James Currie's Cherafir expansion mentions Sir Fraulgrin of Etenach a Trierzi immigrant as Lord Constable of Cherafir and I'm inclined not to change this and assume the the reference to the military commander being on the council referred to Chunel.
So who is the Lord Warden?

It seems to me that if any of the CoE had either of these two positions, they'd have the title and pay, and be handing off the real duties to another. It would be a good way to honor one of the shek p'var or the earl, but I can't see the primate having the time or interest in it.

Canon says both positions belong to CoE members. A fanon says one is not. Until something more definite is written, I think I'll go with Chunel as being the actual Lord Constable, but ignoring the position since they haven't had a real need for a military in Cherefir for centuries, if ever. Sir Fraulgrin is given the duties, such as they are, and a sinecure as a reward for some favor in the past. I favor Hosgril as the Lord Warden of Cherefir. As chancellor, he's involved with the finances, ship inspections, and tariffs, and so would have to be working a lot with the Cherefir harbourmaster, guard, and tax people. Doesn't seem like it would be a big stretch for him to take on the Warden position as well.

Who is the constable of the Cherefir castle? My memory says Chunel, but it's fuzzy on this point. The Watch handles civil disturbances in the town. The Royal Guard looks after the king and helps guard the castle. Whoever is the actual constable would be an obvious person for Lord Constable position.

The way the text is written would imply that the King isn't the Lord Constable.
Lord Constable of Cherafir and constable of Caer Cherafir are the same person. I didn't make that clear when I wrote the initial question this morning. I'd only just gotten up.

I think I'm trying to avoid giving Hosgril the position or Lord Warden even though most of the work is actually carried out by the Aldermen of the city. I think it would place too much power in one person and in one church for that matter. I think I favour one of the Dulyes because they're royal family, probably Gladryne because I see her as the more publicly active of the two.

It's hard to say with any certainty, but I think the text from the CoH Cherafir article is probably in error with regard to those positions being held by members of the CoE. It doesn't seem that *both* can be correct and I'd give more credence on the membership of the CoE to the Melderyn article.

That said, if you want them to be members of the CoE, could they simply be among the "advisory" members?

I'm inclined to agree with you there.
