This is more rule of thumb than firm; something to help keep us on track. I expect we will deviate from it as the holidays and exams near...

Post schedule changes or additions in this thread, and I'll update this post.

Nov 1
* Writing complete (Hidori summer camp to be added to end when it arrives)
* Lerenil art suggestions dispatched to artists

Dec 1
* Pottery Guild art suggestions dispatched to artists

Dec 15
* Lerenil art complete
* Lerenil package submitted to Peter for proof editing and layout

Jan 1
* Potters Guild art complete
* Potter's Guild package submitted to Peter for proof editing and layout

After that, it all depends on Peter's schedule. I would expect at least two review cycles in final layout before we go gold.

Well, the December 15th "deadline" is almost upon us. I am finished with the Lerenil article, and will submit it as soon as I get the last bit of Jeremy's Hodiri material. (There will also a few maps to go with that section.)

I put "deadline" in quotes because of course it is only a guideline in a volunteer effort. In any case, we're making good progress. I hope we might have something to show by February 1st at the latest.

Ilkka and Matthias, will you be contributing to the project? If not, all very well, but if so, now would be a good time to commit to something. I suggest focusing on the Potter's Guild article, since Juha has got the Lerenil article well in hand. But please do indicate your intentions, eh?

Damn. Time is running too fast. :(

I still hope I can contribute something. Focusing on the Potter's Guild article sounds like a good idea.

Time for a status rollcall before we slip into the happy chaos of the Christmas weekend! :x-mas:

Hmm. I'm done! (except for Hodiri maps and editing). Sophia's done!

Jeremy, when might you have the Hodiri material completed? We can work around you for a while; I'm just looking for an estimate.

Artists, are any of you working the Potter's Guild and Uthr's Pottery (from the Lerenil article) illos? If you can't work on anything for the next 2-3 weeks ... well, that's pretty much the time there is left, so let us know.

Peter, when are you planning to start layout and proofing? The Lerenil article is finished except for the Hodiri section; I can send you everything else and you can lay out nearly the whole thing while Jeremy finishes up and the artists work on the Potters article.

You were going to write up a page or two keyed to the Dugaei camp you mapped out, I thought.

Maybe describe a few of the key tents as you would rooms in a keep, post guards and devote a paragraph to describing camp defense, note where supplies, food, firewood, etc. were kept, and maybe tweak the B&W map I sent your way (based on your own map).

Let me know if that's not possible, and I'll see what I can do next week.

I've started laying out the Potters' Guild...and developed some "improvements" to the InDesign template at the same time. The key requirement here is what pictures are earmarked for the Potters' Guild and where do you want them? Of course, I can do the layout, send a PDF and let you check it out.... :)

Paul, I'll put the template into the FTP area in a little while, so you can download it anytime after that...and so can anyone else. :) It's not a lot of help to you if you don't have Adobe InDesign.

I don't know what pictures, if any, we will have. Sohpia has made her requests; it remains to be seen if anything comes of them.

Excellent, but realize, please, that my poking and prodding was aimed elsewhere, oh most productive volunteer artist. :)

The Lerenil text has been uploaded to the ftp server. This is everything except the Hodiri material. It's all yours, Leitchy!

BTW, you'll see highlighted text in the Word doc; this indicates a page reference that must be added in final proofing. The format is not entirely consistent, alas. In some cases I refer to a page number and in others I refer to a section heading. You can go either way you like, or leave them the way they are.

Juha added some pre-existing art to the deal at the last minute. It's all great stuff, but it might best be used to drive layout; add it in a section that needs a nudge to hit an appropriate page break, or leave it out of sections that go a bit over. You can reassign these illos to other people to make this work. Just an idea...

OK, I have put a first small pic on the ftp server, but I fear I will be of very little use for this project. My grandma has died ob the 24th, so the holidays will give me much less free time to draw than I had hoped.

I'm very sorry to hear that. My best to you and your family. Don't worry about the project; there will be others.

Thanks for your help!

Paul

I'll send the Hodiri material on when I get it. It shouldn't be had to tack it onto the end of the article.

The Hodiri material is uploaded. That concludes my input.

Peter, how are you coming along with layout?

Inital text layout is done. Illustration positioning is now underway. This is often tricky, since it's a good idea to put relevant pictures with the text! :) I'll have an initial layout done for you by the end of the week, and then you can tell me where you *really* want the pictures to go. :)

Has Juha uploaded the pottery images to the FTP site (I admit I haven't looked)? If so, the initial layout of the Potters' Guild will also be done by the end of the week (I hope).

I didn't get anything done this weekend, even though I'd planned to. I'm in the process of starting up an online publish company (using RPGNow to sell the products), and negotiations to secure the rights to a setting took up my entire Sunday. But it's a done deal, so it was worth it.

Got 'em. Thanks, Juha.

[edited a couple of hours later]

Since Juha was kind enough to have uploaded the pottery drawings, I decided to do some work on that file. Much to my surprise, I think I've finished. :)

It's in the FTP area, but it's also available from somewhere a bit more convenient;

http://www.lythia.com/downloads/PottersGuild.zip (2.4Mb)

Let me know what changes you want made. But before you do, please note that the text and pictures as is fits perfectly into 12 pages, most of the major heading occur at column top, and I've tried my best to fit the picture to the surrounding text. However, the pug mill and wedging tables are both large and don't look too good on the same spread (plus it fouls up columns). :)

But, if anything really bugs you, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

One final note. I have NOT proofread this yet. I've merely laid it out. I'll get to that later.

Great! I'll look at it a bit later.

If one of the pottery pics doesn't seem to fit well, consider placing it in the Lerenil article. As is, we have no illos for the last 5-7 pages, except for the potter himself. (OTOH, we do have maps, so the pages aren't straight vanilla.)

Oh, in terms of layout in the Lerneil article, you can put the Laowyn piece anywhere in the keep or family write-up, not just where her character write-up is.

I'm being awarded groundless credit. Thamias did the pieces on pages 1 and 3.

OK, I'l fix that tonight. Thamias, what is your last name (just so I can make certain I get it right)?

The layout looks good to me, Peter, and I just have to say I'm excited at how well it has turned out - great art, and I love that 'watermark'.

Just so you don't overlook it in your proof-reading, I noted one small slip in the price list.... the price of 7f for the "JUG/with soft wood or cork stopper, 4 pint" should actually be 7d.

I have been quietly watching the development of these articles here and I'm damned impressed with how great they are looking! You have all done a fantastic job with them. 8)

As a thought, Peter, you might want to consider placing the watermark to the outside of each page as they will sit in a binder. But either way I like it.
