A few quickies; haven't had time to proof-read yet.

Splendid-looking layout, Peter. And it ends on page 12; I know that didn't "just happen"!

I'm not entirely sold on the watermark in the end, though; it looks for all the world like something's gone wrong with my printer and it's printing a darker band across some of the text. I can't shake it. :) I'll ponder it for a few more days, but on the Lerenil article, at least, I may ask you to try a version without. I leave such a decision in Sophia's hands with regard to the Potter Guild article.

"Writers" should singular in the credits box.

Mind the slashes in the price list (my fault, I'm sure). Some have spaces, and some don't.

Once again, well done, and more comments soon.

Hmmm...- I haven't tried looking at it in hard-copy print, and don't have a printer good enough to give it a good test. I'll defer to you and Peter on this one.

I was just coming back to modify my statement; it looks GREAT on-screen!

By the by, I'm being a shameless promoter again elsewhere on the board... but this'll be the last time.

How about a print version and an on-screen version? The former could have the watermark, the latter would have black on white text only. Workable?

It's no biggy to have a screen and a print version. In fact, I have seen an ePublish product that has incorporated a button that switched between screen and print (actually, graphics intense, and graphics lite) versions. I don't know how to do it, but I can sure try. :) However, I may need to restrict the version compatibility to PDF v6 and later instead of v4 and later, as current. (PDF v6 can cater for layers, earlier versions can't I think). Doing it this way, with layers, means the file size remains smaller, because you aren't including two copies of the document. :)

As for the shadowing effect on the title bar; I'm unhappy with how they look on a 600dpi laser printed copy (just did that today). The tables in the back are nice and sharp, and look fine, but the title bars are all smudgey and horrid. I'll be fixing those, too.

I also noticed a couple of errors; no lines around some tables in the GM section, for example. Any other errors so far? To coin a phrase, "Many eyes make typos go away." :)

You're about to drop the P out of PDF.

Linux does not have anything beyond 5.x. Sigh.

Ah. Well, that answers that question. Since Acrobat v7 is now on the streets, the Linux crowd had better get their act together. :)

I'll see what I can do...

Well, at least one person is not a fan of the dark blocks at the top of the page:

I saw that. He has a valid point, and I'll make some changes to take that into account. There will almost certainly be a print and screen version; I just have to figure out how to make them all the same file...although given Linux only supports v5, that may be asking too much. :(

What Acroread clients there are is up to Adobe, I believe. I don't think the sources are freely disributed. Anyway, Linux is not a large audience. No worries.

This version incompatibility makes sharing text increasingly difficult. Soon, we need yet another format. :)

As to typography, I'm plain to the bone.

Maybe just an outlined box rather than solid fill? No change to the look or layout, but less ink intensive.

If you must change the look of the header, please make an original version for me and put it on the ftp when the time comes. I don't desire to settle for less just because someone else complains over pennies when he's getting hundres of dollars of work for free.

I've changed my mind. Put the black bar back, Peter. It stays. Since the only person to complain regards it as a "silly issue" he has no stake in the matter.

We should have talked it over here before going public with any response.
