HarnCon 2019

Post by St Benedict »

Unless someone else wants to host, Hollis Center in Kansas City is willing to host the 2019 HarnCon. Us mid-west Harn folks tend to get together anyway so we are happy to include any and all others.
More details will follow but here are the dates:
June 28-30, 2019, ending Sunday at 1 PM
Hollis Center, 11414 Kansas Ave, Kansas City, KS 66111
We have limited overnight housing at the center, but several hotels are close by. Cost to stay at the center is $50/night. A donation is collected at the event to be given to Hollis for hosting.
The local planning team has met once and we are leaning on an Agrikian Theme, complete with weekend long joust, feast and possible LARP. GMs are welcome to post session ideas here and would be happy to work them into the schedule.
Happy Gaming!
Peace,
Dave Mareske, Hollis Center

This year, barring sudden unexpected major car expenses (like last year), I will be there!

Cheryl and I will give it serious consideration. I haven’t been to KCK/KCM in years, but I do recall the food options to be superb. 8)

Kalahari indoor water park in Sandusky, Ohio might not be a bad idea. Bring the family to the water park and play Harn in their conference rooms.

Sandusky also has Cedar Point Amusement Park. The roller coaster capital of the world.

It however does not have all the great beef places as KC.

I plan to attend in Kansas City. Most likely will not be able to make a trip to Ohio.

Oh, I assumed the Agrikan theme had to do with the barbecue.

I'm really, really going to try hard to attend. I haven't been able to join in since hosting in 2014, and I miss it so much!

Two questions - (1) is HârnCon still on for June?, and (2) what would the tolerance level be for a player who has played a variety of systems over the years but only one session of Hârn? I’ve always wanted to give Hârn a try and my guess is that it would be hard to find a better place to do so than at HârnCon.

1.) Yes
2.) I think you'll find that we're a tolerant bunch, and there have been numerous attendees in the past who had never played in Hârn before. I can't recall anyone ever failing to make them welcome and help them get acquainted with both the world and the system. Plus, it's fun even if you don't know what you're doing. If you can make it, we'd love to see you.

Well, the Saturday evening session will be an all con affair, and much like other scenarios, no-one will really know what they are doing; so you'll be even with everyone...

So far the only rule I am going to share is that no assassinations may be attempted before 8:00 p.m.

Always good to have a few more Canadian's in the crowd. KC may not be the tourist mecca of the universe but Hollis is a great place to host this kind of event. The BBQ in KC is amazing and there is a world class Art Museum and the US National WW1 Memorial and Museum is worth the visit - if you have a few more extra days to spend. The Con falls over Canada Day long weekend too!

I've been informed that there has been significant feedback regarding not wanting to do a LARP, specifically not one, involving assassination, etc. So for those who want to participate, I've got ideas for a simple casual and informal social "game" we can play out over dinner. All assassinations must be completed before 8:00 p.m. ... see you all there.

Has anyone submitted any Hârn rpg sessions that haven't been posted here yet? I played a couple of Hârn sessions at GenCon back in 2013-14 and would like to be a player in the setting once more. Thanks!

Our resident Virana of Cookery has offered a feast for Saturday evening at $18 per plate. With a minimum of 14 and a maximum of 35. Wine/posca/beer would be a separate line item if wanted. This years menu will feature the cuisine of the Tharda. I need a head count by June 10. Our cook is infamous as a Chef in SCA and has plied us with wondrous victuals several times in the past.

Please let me know if you want to partake by no later than June 10 so I can get a final count.
