Notes:

  1. All members of a Compurus will use the same weapons, however, there is variation between units.
  2. Most wear leather tunics, some wear no armour, others quilted tunics.
  3. A few wear Kurbul or Plate Half-helms.
  4. A few Comparus specialise in the short hunting bow, especially common in Kom.
  5. Some Comparus wear ringmail tunics, in all Compari some individuals wear leather or quilted leggings
  6. The Lozenge and Roundels worn by officers on their chest and back are 10" / 25 cm accross.
  7. Only carried when expecting combat, otherwise a dagger would be their secondary weapon.
  8. These troops may wear better than that given up to the standard of their regular counterparts.
  9. Some Tala Sagitorium in Coranan province are equiped with ringmail tunics worn over a quilted tunic and leggings. All Tala Sagitorium may wear quilted or leather leggings.
  10. Complete arour is: scalemail hauberk (split to the waist) over a quilted gambeson, leather leggings and guantlets, and plate greaves.
  11. Complete arour is: chainmail hauberk (split to the waist) over a quilted gambeson, leather leggings and guantlets.
  12. Complete arour is: plate cuirass (breastplate and backplate which extends down over the thorax) over a quilted gambeson, leather leggings and guantlets, plate greaves, and (sometimes) vambraces.
  13. Tribertes very rarely carry sheilds. It is virtually unkown for them to fight. Legati's combat role is purely command. They are not involved in hand-to-hand combat. They are entitled to carry a knight-shield displaying the Legion's arms, which they do on ceremonial occasions.
  14. The Red scalemail (but not the silvered or gilt version) used in the Red Guard is plated with a coppery red metal, The scales are hollowed out at the back to make the armour lighter, but weaker, count as ringmail.
  15. Milites Linari Augusta and Milites Primi Augusta serve in the first cohort, or Cohort Augusta, of the Red Guard.
  16. The armour of the Tribertes and higher ranks in the Red Guard is even more ornate than usual. All wear armour decorated in gilt. The current commander of the Red Guard is said to have had his armour made from thin silver plate which has been gold plated: as such his armour is purely ornamental.
