Description

This leather bound tomb is said to be the most popular book in all of Hârn. The stories come both as scrolls, usually containing only one story each, and as a bound volume containing 80 different stories.

Many of the copies are printed on cheap paper with neither color nor decoration; but most libraries have at least one copy with a color picture of Cargath himself. It is said no two pictures of him ever look the same.

History

Cargath of Záyírà, a stonemason in the late 600s, is renowned for his self-styled travel adventures. Most scholars dismiss his tales as nothing more than entertainment, but a few have begun using them for references to technology, culture and general lore. On mainland Lythia, Cargath of Záyírà is believed to be a character of myth, or more likely several men who’s tales were similar enough that they could fit into one very-long lived man’s life. The fact that many of the stories were written by himself detailing adventures he had while alone does not add to his credibility.

Known to be pious, forthright, honest and true many bards make their living retelling Cargath’s many moralistic stories. Cargath is the typical Hârnic hero. The family of Záyírà does not exist as Cargath himself admits in his writing that it is not his real name.

NOTE: The books are very popular. Most scholars have “found” justifications for including many of Cargath’s stories in their library. A few travelling bards claim to know “new” Cargath stories; but few are willing to believe that even such a great man as Cargath himself could cast new stories after his death.
