YAHP

Yet Another Hârn Project is my term for the numerous and ever growing number of Hârn related projects out there. Sometimes it's difficult to keep track of who's doing what and where. Since most members seem to have a page or two of their submission dedicated to the various goings on in their gaming life - and since Marie is already chronicling our game, I though this would be a nice synopsis of all the wonderful things that eat my spare time.

HârnBeasty

What began as a common complaint towards Columbia Games Ltd's poor production schedule actually turned productive. There are four active members and a dozen or so lurkers on the HârnBeasty Yahoo Group. To date it's been rather a free-for-all with everyone who wants to adding information to the files section and using each other as co-editors. We're trying to detail the fauna of North-Western Lythia, focusing on the basic animals and not the Ivashu or other magic-centric races. Why? Because no one else seems to be doing it, and there's a lot of information to correlate. To date I have four beasts done (bears, foxes, hares and rabbits - well 3 and 1/4 at least). I've included my drafts of the first three in this issue for your appraisal.

What I particularly enjoy is that the group is fairly open-minded and provides content. Kevin Knight has written a series of common lore articles for my works. They add a wonderful Hârnic feel to the articles. Maps and artwork are provided by Rick Ivansek - without which the files would just be a bunch of text. The group has to self-motivate (something I find difficult to do) so traffic tends to trickle.

Shoju

This one started because Ken Snellings wanted to map Shoju using Campaign Cartographer 2. To date we've discussed general culture, religion and terminology. One fellow is working on a glossary, another on an EBoN Name chapter and a third on weapons and armor. I'm supposedly working on religions currently while someone else does the mapping. Conversations are quiet right now, but debates tend to be heated with one or two members almost bullying the others out of the conversation. While I truly want to work on Shoju I just don't have the time, and with different members each having their own distinct vision of what Shoju should be it tends to be difficult to convince some to change their ideas.

Drafts of my versions of the gods can be found in the files section. There's not much else up there at the moment.

Perils of Perinore

The Perils of Perinore web page is all about an ongoing "Play By Electronic Mail" Role-playing Game. We are using the HârnMaster rules and HârnWorld setting published by Columbia Games Incorporated. Ken Snellings is the GM. I designed the web site and play Teriel, a young member of the Aleath Watch. The character as well as a regularly updated (and edited) game log is available on the web site. Pictures of the characters are currently being done by Richard Luschek and should appear on the web site in the near future.

HRT

The HRT is an ongoing project run by some of the Hârn Mailing List subscribers. Its purpose is to expand and improve the area of Gods and Religion in Columbia Games' FRP environment HârnWorld. This project started in September '95.

You can see more of what we've worked on in HârnMaster Religion, published by Columbia Games. This is not just a reprint of the original Gods of Hârn, but includes both detailed rules for Hârnic religions and priests, and brand new material - some of it by members of the HRT.

Columbia Games' Hârnmaster Barbarians also contains information on tribal religions, shamans, and shamanic rituals - much of which was also developed by HRT members.

Even though HârnMaster Religion contains a lot of good stuff, there is much to add. Our ambition is to complement the currently available information on HârnWorld by providing fuller and more believable gods and religions to users of the Hârn FRP environment.

What we produce should be fully compatible with the material produced by Columbia Games, although we cannot guarantee that future publications will be consistent with what appears here. Incompatible or 'alternative' explanations and ideas may be included on the HRT pages if they are clearly marked as such, and kept separated from the other material.

The Hârn Religious Team was one of the first YAHP I joined. Currently traffic on its new server (they moved it to host at Yahoo Groups) is very quiet.

The site is temporarily hosted at: http://www.mindspring.com/~jchokey/HRT/

The newsgroup is available at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HRT

HGT

The European HârnMaster's Guild hosts the Hârn Guilds Team. The HGT is a project to expand and improve the area of Guilds and those themes, which are directly connected with the day-to-day work done by their members (trading and taxes for example) in Columbia Games' FRP environment HârnWorld.

This project started in February '99. Even though Hârnmaster contains a lot of good stuff, there is much to add. Our ambition is to complement the currently available information on Hârn to provide a fuller and more believable world to users of the FRP environment.

Basically, what we produce should be fully compatible with the material produced by Columbia Games. Incompatible / 'alternative' explanations and ideas can also be included if they are clearly marked as such, and kept separated from the other material.

I am only involved marginally in this one.

The Newsgroup is available at: ehg@emilie.nef.wh.uni-dortmund.de, although it may be closing soon.

HârnMag

This one is now defunct. It was an attempt to create a regular publication of various Hârnic materials. I submitted my Bonding House article (Coranan, appeared in a previous issue of APAcalypse), someone else wrote a terrific introduction to Hârn (available at: http://lythia.com/articles/intro.asp) and a third person wrote a great short story. The group died primarily because of a very noticeable lack of work and content.

Shame too, because in the past almost every Hârnfan seems to enjoy regular fan publications. I get e-mails when I don't post an issue of APAcalypse to my web page so I know there are at least a few Hârnfans who read my stuff unprompted. It's yet another case of "if I only had the time I'd-" Maybe someday I'll start my own publication.

Columbia Games is willing to support the venture and allow the use of their copyrights as is Auran. So really the only limitation is the people running it. When it started up (late last year) there were four people very willing and eager. Now I can't even get a response from them. Their eagerness died down when they realized they'd have to provide content too.
