To Sir Reius,
Knight of Larani,
Order of the Checkered Shield

Dear friend,

I was very pleased to hear of your victory in a recent tourney and rejoiced every time to hear tales of your exploits. Our first, and (so far) only, meeting has always remained firmly in my mind and I fondly remember your shy and gentle manners with the people here at Fobin.

I hope that all has been well with you and that this letter finds you in good health and spirits. My manus has seen much adventure and profit and perhaps I can regale you with tales of our exploits when we meet next. I certainly hope to have the chance of meeting up with you again.

With this letter there should be a package; inside it you will find a gift to you. It is carved from the heart of a white oak, a very rare wood as I am certain you know. When I heard of your victory at a tourney, I felt that I had to properly commemorate the event and began carving the badge for you. I heard that you beat Sir Ragnar, I had the honor of meeting him previously in his passage in Fobin and even shared combat with him. We, in my manus, called him, with the respect of course due his station, Sir Smitealot. And smite he did, and very well. Which is why I am both pleased and surprised that you came away from event as champion.

My felicitations!

Please accept my gift and wear it as a token of my esteem and friendship. You will probably inquire about the symbolism of seeing a sword on a shield since it not the symbol of the Order of the Checkered Shield. It is simple to explain, the shield is to grant you protection and the sword to grant you strength and courage. I hope that they will be at your disposal when you require them.

Please know that I remember our brief meeting with fondness and look forward to meeting you again if circumstances permit.

With respect,

I remain, always, your friend,

:fenelisa:
