Warriors of Beyrone

The Warriors of Beyrone are an Azeryani sorcerous order, named after their found Gallus Beyrones. Founded in Hepenolis in 338 TR, the order was specifically created to oppose Dalkesh in the Second Azeryan/Dalkesh war. Hepenolis was threatened by the Dalkesh navy and the Warriors specifically worked to help the Azeryani navy and keep Hepenolis out of Dalkesh control. Given the worship of Naveh which is prevalent in the upper portions of Dalkesh society, the Warriors of Beyrone quickly evolved into an order devoted to the opposition of Naveh. To this day their primary driving force is antipathy to the worship of Naveh.

The Warriors were a very successful school and grew moderately quickly, at least in part as a result of fame gained in the wars against Dalkesh. Satellite chapter houses were founded in 459 TR at Goris (at the time an Azeryani city of the southwest coast of the Azeryan peninsula) and in 484 TR in Rykal, a city in what is now the Karejian league. Both of these chapter houses also prospered.

The Rykal house grew rapidly during the 6th century and was a powerful force in local Azeryani politics. In the Great Succession of 657 TR the house split with roughly half of the members favoring the Empire and half favoring the independent Karejian city states. Initially the split was violent but a truce was quickly called and the order formally split. Those loyal to the Empire moved to Sanos and founded their own chapterhouse. Members of the two chapters fought on opposing sides during the war but managed to maintain relatively cordial relations with each other. Since the end of the war contact between the two has normalized and apprentices and journeymen routinely train in both locales.

When Dalkesh captured Hepenolis in 661 TR, survivors of the original Hepenolan chapter fled to Goris. In 494 TR Goris was captured by the Seldenbaaler clan Dareborg and has since been an independent city state. In 665 TR the now enlarged Goris chapter of the Warriors of Beyrone attempted to oust clan Dareborg and take over the government. While they nearly succeeded, in the end clan Dareborg overcame and nearly annihilated most members of the local chapter. The survivors fled to Vitho, in the independent kingdom of Vitho on Hepekeria, and re-established their chapter nearby.

Since losing to clan Dareborg the Vithan chapter of the Warriors of Beyrone has shown a strong antipathy towards all worshippers of Sarajin. As the Vithan chapter owns substantial estates in the Vithan kingdom and plays an active part in Vithan politics the chapter's anti-Sarajinian stance has been key in the continuing hostilities between Menema and Vitho. Both the 2nd and 3rd Vitho/Menema wars were initiated by members of the order working without government sanction.

In 704 TR internal strife led to a violent split in the Vithan chapter of the Warriors of Beyrone. Several high-ranking members eventually fled to Xerium and established an independent chapterhouse there. Since then the two houses have expended considerable energy sniping at each other though neither has engaged in outright warfare. Given their hatred of Naveh neither side has resorted to assassaination, though physical attacks have occurred. Mostly both sides have engaged in economic warfare, interfering with each other's estates and trade. The chapterhouse in Rykal has made several overtures in attempt to make peace between these two but so far has not been successful.

Membership in the four chapterhouses of the warriors of Beyrone in 720 is:

Vitho - 2 Magi, 4 Adepts, 9 Journeymen, 7 apprentices.

Xerium - 1 Magus, 1 Adept, 2 Journeymen, 5 apprentices.

Rykal - 9 Magi, 14 Adepts, 15 Journeymen, 23 apprentices.

Sanos - 7 Magi, 17 Adepts, 10 Journeymen, 16 apprentices.

Typically the majority of the Magi and Adepts are resident at the chapterhouse or live nearby. All apprentices stay with their masters, whether in the chapterhouse or on nearby estates. Most journeymen live up to the name and travel. Any journeyman can stay at a chapterhouse free of charge for up to 1 month at a time but then are required to either pay for their upkeep (through work or cash payment) or to move on. Most travel and find employment with mercantylers, serving as marines.

The Warriors of Beyrone, as their name would imply, are a militarily-oriented order. Most of their magics are intended for use in either personal or group combat. As Hepenolis' economy is nearly entirely maritime they have focussed on naval combat over land combat. Journeymen are routinely welcome as crew members on mercantyle vessels trading anywhere where the order is known.
