Sitarny Outpost

Every farmer owes 8 tenday of service to the legion, as do each of their children over the age of 21. Only a few of the legionnaires come from the surrounding villages. The legionnaires socialize frequently with the other townsfolk.

In return for offering legionnaires a discounted price, the bonded craftsmen receive a wage and their shop from the legion.

Tadia and Malachai of Usern are the cooks for the legion. They purchase ales from the local Inn, but everything else is made on the premises. The town receives its bread from the miller, while the legion relies on its own kitchens.

Kromis, the ostler, lives outside the Outpost. His apprentices work within the Outpost as its ostler, calling on their master whenever a horse needs shoeing, or doctoring. Otherwise the boys are quite capable.

Built between 709TR and 718TR, the Outpost is a collection of three square buildings surrounded by a 16, square, stone wall. It lays atop a slight rise. Beyond the walls, the river Sitarny flows to the north and the village is to the south. The High Corani Road runs directly by the double iron bound doors of the Outpost. The doors are 10' tall and capped by a stone archway that connects to the wall. The iron portcullis closes inside the doors. There is no cellar.

Courtyard

The courtyard is dominated by a large, capped, well. This is the only source of water in the Outpost. The well is deep and has never shown signs of running dry. Local legionnaires have a paranoia that the well will be poisoned in an attempt to drive them out. Many believe this was the first attack against Themeson 12 years before.

The courtyard is cobbled and kept clean by the two boys who also work in the stables.

Ground Floor

Sitarny - Ground Floor

1. Tour Manus

The tower's entry has two Milities Linari on guard. Through the main door is Veritus Baral's quarters. The room consists of a sturdy desk and chair, a brazier, two single beds and a locked chest. Veritus's quarters are separated from the Manus' by a thick curtain.

Truso Baral, the Manus Primus, has a double bed, a locked chest, a sturdy desk and chair and a small fireplace. Wood is stacked neatly between the fireplace and the chest. His money (103d) is kept beneath the mattress.

The Manus hates paperwork. He would rather give it all to his squire, Veritus Baral. Liked by most of the soldiers in Sitarny, Veritus hopes to someday join the legion full-time as an Officer.

2. Villa Milities

This large building serves as both an eating hall and sleeping quarters for the Reserve II Tenaci. Tadia and Malachai of Usern sleep with the Milities Linari in the beds closest to the curtain.

Along the north wall crates and barrels of food and ale. The kitchen opens into the eating room. There are 15 beds on the ground floor. They are divided from the eating area a curtain.

3. Tour Tala

The sexton Tamoceius Baral and his squire, Dassiso Asarn, sleep on the ground floor. This tower is divided in two by a wall. The Sexton sleeps on the north side. The extra bed in this room is reserved for messengers, or officer legionnaires.

1. Tower Manus

This room is home to the Comparts Archerers when on duty. The single bed in the northwestern corner of the tower belongs to the Compartes. When not on duty, the mattresses are rolled up close to the wall, and the linens are removed. The chests are usually emptied, but remain locked year round.

2. Villa Milities

To the north is the bedroom and office of the Manus of the Second Maniple, Carbo Sosalda. A brazier warms the room throughout the winter. The desk is provided to give him a quiet space to work. He has neither a squire nor a clerk. His Tenaci sleep on the ground floor.

To the south is the room of the Manus of the Third Maniple, Ammia Mortorn. The main rooms on this floor belong to the Tenaci of the Third Maniple. They sleep 5 to a room. Each room has a large closet where in armour, equipment and clothing are stored. The chests at the foot of the bed contain more personal items.

3. Tour Tala

This room holds the beds and personal property of the 5 Milities Tala Gravis. When no other messenger is available, a Milities Tala is randomly chosen to provide the service. It pays an extra drachma a day.

Dassiso Asarn, who also sees to the Milities Tala's laundry, cares for the fire in the corner. The legion insists the Tala clean their arms, saddles, horse tack and armourments themselves.

4. Stables

Two ladders lead down to the first floor. A hook for a winch is set above the large, slightly off-center door. Petrius and Odivius sleep up here in the summer and in the eating room in the winter.

Triberties Sanianatos of clan Baral is assisted by a squire (Legrus M;19). Unfortunately the boy is not liked. His chest holds 56-100d, a few spare tunics and leggings, a pair of fine riding boot, and some personal items.
