Shenlaw was the second child of Cecia and Braenius Weijik. He was born mid summer in the family home in Oepus Coranan. Shenlaw was fond of sports, but never seemed to be able to do much for long (End 08). In good health he seemed to tire quickly. His inability to see well in the dark (Eye 07) cost his parents a small fortune in lamps and lamp oil during hisprivate studies. Shelaw had a quick wit and a good memory (Int 16, Wil 16). He took easily to politics and law.
At the age of 16 he joined the Thardic Legion and served as a junior officer for four years. During his tour he was faced with defending the roads from barbarians intent on plunder just after the Salt War. Tales of his courage from this time abound. Whenever well into his cups, Shenlaw loves talking about those four years almost as much as the adventures during his clerking days.
Officially he is now a part of the Milities Talia of Coranan province, although for the past four years he has been paying scuttage to avoid his duties. Shelaw was well respected in the legion and even more so in the political courts. He proved to be an excellent clerk and gained a seat in the senate at the age of 35 (697TR).
In the senate he has opposed any action that would harm Tharda. He defends the weak and oppressed and speaks out against Agrikan, Morgathian and Navehian actions. Some believe that his flagrant disregard to the religious taboos of Tharda are his greatest weakness; for he tends to annoy and irritate those around him. He openly wears a peonian religious symbol around his neck. His personal coat of arms has the peonian flower quartered on the blue background.
He and Sister Anna are very close. He is one of the main champions for her temple in the Senate. At every chance he reminds the senate all that the Peonians do for the Republic and what little the senate does for them in return.
His dark hair has gone to a pale grey over the years but is not thinning. He remains clean shaven whenever possible. The man is of slim build but remains athletic (Str 15) even in his elder years. Shenlaw enjoy riding and can be found exercising his mount, Brutus, most mornings south-west of the city. Shelaw is always accompanied by two ex-gladiators as body guards.
At the age of 40 Shenlaw married the lovely Artadia. Her dowry provided no land, but did link the clans of Weijik and Wytel closer together. Artadia, some 10 years younger than Shenlaw, has since born him two daughters (Cladudia F:18, Jaismine F:16) both of whom are in the legion. Artadia is a devout Halean who tries to ignore her husband's affiliation with Peoni. In her eyes he is a kind and gentle man. She does not question his courage, nor his resolve for the past has proven both without question.
Shenlaw is deceptively good at playing the disinterested party. He listens to all arguments before stating his points and his case with a surprising eloquence that is often lacking in his senatorial speeches. He is not fond of his own voice (despite what many say about him) and tries to keep his speaking engagements to a minimum. His relationship with Artadia and his children is private and it is almost impossible to get him to speak on the details of his home or family life.
