Caer
A fancy word for a castle.
A school of magic. Usually this includes a library and one or two masters
who teach several apprentices each. Chantries are rare and only one exists
in Tharda.
Cohorts of Gashang
Members of the Eight Demon's all-male fighting order, the Cohorts of Gashang,
are avoided even by other Agrikians because of their self-mutilation practices.
Common Lore
Something known to all. In Hârnic mythos, "Common Lore" refers to information
freely shared with players.
Coranan
A large city on the bank of the River Thard, it is also the capital of the
Thardic Republic and the home of its governing body, the Senate. Locally it
is referred to as the city of Vice.
Corani Empire
An ancient empire on which much of the laws and methods of governing the
Thardic Republic claims to be based. To be noble or fashionably old-fashioned
in the Republic is to some how have a tie to the Corani Empire. It existed
from 301 to 565TR, when the Theocracy of Tekos began.
Castes
There are five castes to Thardic society: The slaves, the freedmen, the
citizens, the equestrians and the senators. All legionnaires, when on duty,
are treated as citizens if they are regular soldiers and equestrians if they
are mounted officers. Slaves may not become legionnaires.
Characters
From senators to farmers and innkeepers - here then are the NPCs and PCs
of my campaign.
Colura of Coranan
The Fifth Autarch (661-68) and for a time was successful in prosecuting
the war with Moleryn. Kanday demanded the withdrawal of the League from Moleryn
but Colura ignored the demand. Kanday then declared war on the League although
it was ill prepared. The Five-year war, as it became to be known, seemed destined
to add pieces of Kanday to the League. At the Battle of Teb Marsh (bb3) not
only did the League defeat the forces of Kanday, it also captured the royal
keep of Ibonost. Queen Arelora of Kanday then took personal command of the
demoralized army and started to push Coluras Guards back. In 665 at
the Battle of Eidru, she captured first Eidru then Kuseme when the panicked
Guards fleeing her forces failed to close the gates fast enough to bar her
advancing knights. Colura and the remnants of the guard retreated to Coranan
and managed to raise Kobar Bridge. By the terms of the Peace of Quivum in
666, Kanday annexed Kuseme and Eidru, regains Ibonost, but the League kept
Moleryn. Although Colura finished his term of office, he was discredited and
was something of an object of ridicule. He died of a stroke in 670 and it
seems likely that the stress of the Five-Year War had much to do with his
early death. [Tharda 3]
Cohorts of Gashang
Split from the Order of Herpa the Mace and the Red Shadows of Herpa in 714
along with the Orders of the Eight Demons.
The demands are made only to conceal secret negotiations between the Senate
and the Cohorts of Gashang for the return of the land to the Republic. The
fighting order is well aware of its tenuous position with the Rethiem throne,
and with its powerful parent order based across the river at Menekai.
Corani Empire
In 301, Corthir, chieftain of the Corani tribal nation, united the eight
Corani tribes. He also who founded the city of Coranan. Corthir's "Empire"
extended less than twenty leagues east and west of the city on the north bank
of the Thard. Yet, it dominated all of western Hârn before collapsing
to the Blashan Jihad in 565. The Corani Empire was the largest human state
in Hârnic history. Seemingly destined to rule all of Hârn, its
corruption, too many week emperors, and a series of floods, plagues and famines,
led to its demise. Much of the character of present day Tharda had its roots
in the empire; most of the region's fortifications, roads ad ports were founded
during its existence. The 15 monarchs who ruled the Corani Empire were:

Corani Tribes
These were the eight tribes of the Thard River Basin. [Tharda 1]
Coranan
Founded by Corthir, once capital of the Corani Empire [Tharda 1] The intrigue
over the appointment of a new Warden for Coranan is reaching a crisis point.
The city has been without a Warden for three months, and the Red Guard can
presently be described as capriciously surly. The Senate has managed to reduce
the field of candidate to two, both of whom are supporters of the Consolidationist
Faction. Unfortunately, half the senators support both candidates, and neither
can gain the two-thirds vote necessary for appointment. It is possible that
a compromise candidate will be proposed in the near future. The city of Coranan
is a separate administrative district governed by the Prefect and Warden.
The Warden commands the Red Guard, who garrisons the city, and serves as the
senatorial bodyguard. Although it is technically responsible for policing
the city, it has grown so lax in this regard that several private mercenary
corps has taken over much of that duty. The Prefect has responsibility for
the financial, judicial and civil administration in the city.
Coranan Republic
In 621 the heads of the most powerful clans in Coranan formed the Coranan
Republic. Headed a senate of clan heads and some senators were members of
both the Shirian senate and the Coranan senate. Based on the Interregnum.
When Arlun conquered the Golothan Theocracy and founded the kingdom of Rethem
in 635, the two senates, anticipating his expansionist designs, voted to form
the Thardic League in 636. [Tharda 2]
Corthir
Chieftain of the eight united Corani tribes as of 201, he founded the Corani
Empire. [Tharda 1]
Crescius the Wise (507-582TR)
A fairly well known schollar, Crescius is credited with most of the major
finds of artifacts or "magical items" in Tharda. He also write a
series of treaties effectively proving there must be a GodStone beneath lake
Benath. The Guild of Arcane Lore in Coranan is still trying to figure out
ways to prove or disprove most of his theories, which were considered well
advanced of his time.
Cylaxius of Trynest, Innkeeper
(683-...)
Husband to Agrea of Glynar. Innkeeper of the Scarlet Spear - an inn in Ernoll,
Themesonshire, Rethem. He is kind hearted and quiet, although most consider
him a traitor.
